Technical implementation with a focus on data protection

Two-factor authentication (2FA) provides effective protection for sensitive data and can be used flexibly in the app – e.g., when accessing exam areas, mailboxes, or library accounts. In addition to the app's regular security mechanisms, this activates an additional protective shield that prevents unauthorized access.

The app uses the platform-specific security systems of iOS and Android. Authentication keys are stored in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore – highly secure and linked to the hardware of the respective device. These technologies enable the encrypted storage of sensitive information, which remains protected from unauthorized access even if the device is lost.

In addition, a modular app architecture provides additional data protection: each app module is isolated, only accesses its own content, and cannot access other data within the app. This significantly minimizes the risk of potential security incidents.

In addition, users can activate biometric authentication (fingerprint, facial recognition) or a secure 4-digit PIN. The biometric data remains exclusively on the device and is not transferred to UniNow. After a maximum of five failed attempts, the module is reset and all data stored in it is deleted.

The 2FA module is supplemented by a variety of app-wide security measures, including regular security updates, encrypted data transfers, and security-oriented development processes such as code reviews and static code analysis. These measures ensure that your university can rely on UniNow for fully protected app operation.

The premium modules enhance the campus app with integrated tools for organization, communication, and administration.

The premium module “Two-Factor Authentication” (2FA) adds an additional layer of security to the campus app. Universities can configure the second factor specifically for sensitive functions, such as accessing emails, exam data, or library systems. Authentication is performed in addition to the standard login process, increasing the protection of personal data. The technical setup is tailored to the university’s requirements and integrated securely within the app. All authentication processes comply with modern security and data protection standards.

The "Campus Facilities" premium module enables universities to list key locations such as libraries, offices, labs, and service centers directly within the app. Each facility is displayed with its name, address, and location details. Through Google Maps or Apple Maps integration, users can navigate to the desired location directly from the app. The module improves orientation on campus, especially for new students and visitors.

The "Campus Tours" module allows universities to offer guided tours of important locations within the campus or surrounding city. Whether it's a welcome tour for first-year students, a walk through service points, or a historical route – all tours are accessible via the app. Each stop includes location details, navigation, and optional background information. The tours can be customized to meet the needs of each institution and help students and visitors get oriented quickly.

Students and guests can explore the campus or city interactively using an app. Tours can be created, managed, and played back flexibly based on roles.
